Aquilino Martin de la Llana Pimentel III commonly known as Koko Pimentel, is the son of the former senator Aquilino Pimentel, Jr. and Lourdes dela Llana-Pimentel.

He was proclaimed on August 11, 2011 as the 12th winning senator in the 2007 election. Aquilino Pimentel III was sworn in at Mati, Davao Oriental on August 12, 2011 and assumed office on August 15, 2011.

It was a difficult route for him going there since he lost four years of his term after being edged out by Juan Miguel “Migs” Zubiri in the 2007 mid-term elections.

Zubiri, who ran under the administration ticket, won the post by a slim margin of around 21,000 votes over Pimentel, who ran under the position.

Zubiri, who denied he was involved in the cheating, eventually relinquished his post.

Aquilino Pimentel is the president of PDP-Laban political party after leaving the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA).
